Airlines were selected based on a combination of factors, including:
Tracking Coverage - For Global airlines, a tracking requirement of 90% is required to be included in the report. For Low Cost Carriers and Carriers by Region, the tracking requirement is 80%. To ensure complete transparency, we have included the tracking coverage for each airline.
By Region - For the Asia-Pacific region, airlines must fall in the top 20th percent of total flights, seats and ASKs (Available Seats Kilometers). For the Europe region, airlines must fall in the top 20th percent of total flights, seats and ASKs. For the North America region, airlines must fall in the top 15th percent of total flights, seats and ASKs. For the Middle East and Africa region, airlines must fall in the top 50th percent of total flights, seats and ASKs. For the Latin America region, airlines must fall in the top 50th percent of total flights, seats and ASKs.
Global Category - Airlines must fall in the top 10th percent of total flights, seats and ASKs. They also must operate at least one round trip per day in at least three regions, inclusive of their home region.
Low-Cost Carrier Category - Airlines must fall in the top 90th percent of total flights, seats and ASKs. They also must be labeled as a Low-Cost Carrier by IATA in 2019.
Please note: An airlines home country is used to determine the geography of the carrier. Each category, except for Low-Cost Carrier, is split into mainline and network categories.
